Kami Dejonge
Hi! My name is Kami, I’ve been competitively team penning for just over 2 years, and this will be my 3rd season penning. I was first introduced to this sport when I was 12, I didn’t get too competitive with it before I got into a car accident and stopped riding for 8 years. 2023 would have been my first year back riding after a hiatus, and I had a fairly successful season, winning the 7 class at the Calgary Stampede on Dexter with the help of my amazing teammates Larry and Christal. I came back again to have another successful Calgary Stampede 7 class in 2024 on Dexter, winning with Larry and Stew. I’m forever grateful my fiancé has let me borrow Dexter to get back into the sport, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for Ice.
Brooke Taphorn
A passionate rider, colt starter, trainer, and riding coach. I am competitive with my two amazing mares, my Thoroughbred, Angel, and my Friesian Sport Horse, Zoom. I compete in Jumpers with Angel. This year, we proudly stepped into the 1.10m ring, and we also cross-train with obstacles and cross-country. Zoom and I compete in Extreme Cowboy Racing and cross-train with some low jumping. We are gearing up for more cowboy races across the province this season and can’t wait for the adventures ahead. We have our sights set on winning our first belt buckle this year. I will be developing my three-year-old Warmblood Colt, Salem, to take me to Spruce Meadows when he is old enough.
I am 11 years old. I am a 3-day eventer. This will be my 5th season of competing in 3-day eventing. This season, I have a new partner named Eli. Eli is an 18-year-old TB, and he is owned by my older cousin Mikayla Hoffman. Eli has competed all the way to the Advanced level in 3-day eventing all throughout the USA and Canada. He has recently retired from the upper levels, which was perfect timing as my horse, Heathcliff, was also ready to take a step back from competing at the levels I have been moving up to. My mom also competed in 3-day events when I was young, so I've been attending 3-day events my whole life. My favourite 3-day eventers and role models include Jessica Phoenix, Boyd Martin and William Fox-Pitt. The Cross Country phase is my favourite. My goal is to get to the 5* level in 3-day eventing eventually, but this year I have moved up to the EV-85 level with Eli.
